Almost daily, the UK is discovering the disaster that Brexit has become. Prejudice, misinformation and probable outside interfer
ence (from Russia) made the referendum a disaster.
We have all seen what happened in Hong Kong. Despite massive protests, China just scrapped the 50-year, one country two systems agreement it made with Britain at the time of the 1997 handover. China doubled down on the use of force. It finally used the Covid pandemic, which it began and spread around the world, to end all protests.
China’s Social Credit System, coupled with mass camera surveillance, calls to mind Orwell’s brilliant novel, “1984.” Under Xi Jinping’s effective dictatorship any semblance of freedom or objective news reporting has been crushed. Brainwashing of the population begins as early as kindergarten.
This new emperor has also been pushing China’s aggression and expansionism. China’s reckless military moves, threatening Taiwan, have pushed the whole region to the brink of conflict and possible WWIII. Its claim of sovereignty over Taiwan lack legitimacy and are solely based on warped technicalities, resulting from the “One China” policy that the US and most of the world foolishly subscribed to in the 1970s.
Putin’s Russia is another example of a corrupt dictatorship. Like in China, state-sponsored murder and disappearances are becoming all too common.
The USA, ever since the appearance of Donald Trump, has been a house divided, and we know what that means. It is becoming increasingly a worry if anybody will be able to prevent the rise of this ghastly vision of China.
